Let me tell you a story. It’s about a YA paranormal author whose name is Christina G Gaudet. This author was very excited to write lots of books, especially ones for her The Box series.
After publishing three books, Christina felt very comfortable with the world she created. So when she decided to write the fourth book in the series, she thought it would be fine to announce the title, show the cover, and promise to release it by a certain date. After all, she was sure the story would work out in the end.
Christina then spent several weeks writing the book. As she wrote she realized there were problems with the story. However, there was a deadline to make and she didn’t want to disappoint her fans by being late with the release. So she kept writing.
But the story did not fix itself.
Because of the flaws, Christina found herself wanting to do other things rather than write every day. But the story needed to be finished. So she kept writing.
Forcing herself to get enough words down, Christina managed to finish the story. Success at last! But there was a problem she had not anticipated.
The story wasn’t good.
She had not put her heart into the book, and no amount of editing was going to fix the mess she created.
Christina realized the book was not good enough and rather than push it out into her unsuspecting fans hands, she decided to hold onto the book for a while longer. This way she could spend more time reworking the story to make it as fun and exciting as the previous books in the series.
Books cannot be rushed or forced. Careful planning and paying attention to gut feelings are the only way to complete a book. And if in the end it still doesn’t feel right, then set the story aside and work on something else.
In other words, The University will no longer be book 4 in The Box series. For now, the story is being set aside until I figure out what I’m going to do with it. You will eventually get to see what happens in The University, but it probably won’t be released until after book 4 and 5 of the series.
For now, look forward to The Sorcerer, book 4 of The Box series, coming in August/September.
